This is the story of Molly, who, at the age of 11, discovered a lump on her neck that turned out to be thyroid cancer. Our new film serves as a resource for young people in the UK affected by thyroid cancer, as well as their families.
A diagnosis of cancer is, understandably, distressing at any age. Good quality information and advice are vital to support anyone undergoing treatment and care. After releasing our previous patient support films, Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust saw the need for a resource specifically aimed at younger patients, especially important given that thyroid cancer can often affect people at a relatively young age.
However, presenting medical information in an age-appropriate way isn’t easy. We were therefore tasked with striking a balance between accurately conveying thyroid cancer treatments and making the content accessible, and, dare we say it, even entertaining.
This film also demonstrates our expertise in working with young people and nervous contributors. Sharing personal experiences can be daunting, especially during a challenging period in one’s life. By creating a supportive, reassuring environment and offering guidance on camera, we help participants tell their stories authentically, however difficult the subject matter may be.
Objectiv has knocked it out of the park again! This will be so helpful for young patients and their families.
